For more than thirty years, I’ve worked with people building things — companies, assets, careers, deals, buildings, reputations.   I’ve also helped those same people fight to keep their companies, assets, and reputations in disputes and litigation with investors, lenders, partners, vendors.

In my role as attorney, I came to realize early on that the most interesting part of any deal, any fight, is the person or the people involved. It's the path that led them there, the risks they took, the lines they wouldn't cross, and the lessons they're still figuring out.  The Lava Project was born from that realization.

Based in Austin — a city where politics, tech money, live music, and big ideas all share the same “weird” zip code — The Lava Project is a conversation series built on a simple understanding: nothing exists in isolation.  

Business decisions shape culture. Culture shapes technology. Technology reshapes the law. The law shapes how athletes get paid, how musicians get heard, and how entrepreneurs take their next swing.

Pull on any one of these threads, and the rest of the fabric unravels with it.

That's the idea behind the name. In a lava lamp, nothing is static and nothing is separate — the wax rises, splits, and reforms; driven by forces you can't always see but can always feel.

 That's how I see the worlds of business, law, technology, sports, music, and culture: distinct on the surface, but deeply, organically intertwined underneath.

Our mission is to host conversations that are genuinely interesting first — and informative, candid, and occasionally profound as a natural byproduct of open dialogue between smart, accomplished people. No forced soundbites. No rehearsed pitches. Just real dialogue with business leaders, entrepreneurs, attorneys, elite athletes, and musicians who've built something, broken something, learned something, or seen the world shift from a front-row seat. 

Each episode of The Lava Project is an invitation to sit in on that conversation — to hear how a closing argument and a chord progression might come from the same place, how both demand discipline, and how the best builders, regardless of their field, tend to think in similar ways.
